Most members speak English and Spanish.

No. It’s your body, and your choice to eat whatever you want. As a guest you will want to bring anything special that you require during your time here.

There is high speed internet that is usually sufficient for the members and visitors. Is it reliable? Not exactly. In the last year, there has been a monthly occurrence where internet was unavailable for a day or two.

Depends on your type of work.  

There are handful of children that live full-time on the farm and many more children that are disguised as adults here too. We are all living in service of the next generation, and we value experiencing the world as the children do.

Possibly. Some of our accommodations are suited for pets but not all. There is not adequate fencing to keep pets from wandering off or into areas with farm animals. All of the animals on the farm serve a purpose and we consider them community members. Their living on the farm has to be beneficial for all that are living amongst each other (just like humans).

Although a volunteer program has been active in the past, there is currently no volunteer program at Finca Sagrada.

Checking back in is advisable though because Finca Sagrada is currently seeking various ways to enrich the visitor experience and we may again offer a volunteer/apprenticeship type program

For those interested in gardening and farming, there are ample opportunities to care for animals and plants. We have endless walking trails to meander or forage for fresh fruit. Quieter activities such as meditating or drumming at the Spirit House is food for the soul. Several of our members work remotely and our Wi-Fi is usually adequate for their needs. There is a large community library of books you may enjoy during your stay. You will be welcomed right into the flow of our community and can participate as much as you’d like. We meet for community activities several times a week including shared meals, Mingas (work parties), meetings, movies and games.

In the dry season (May to October) bring your hat, and sunscreen. Compared to other places in Ecuador, it is a pleasant humidity level. Our clothes dry when they are hung out.

During the rainy season (October to April) there are consistent rains for a few hours per day. These months the rains may damage river beds and roads, which may impact travel and accessibility. 

The closest corner store is 35 minutes walking. The nearest town is Vilcabamba. It is about a 45 minute taxi ride from the farm. Vilcabamba is also accessible by taking a moderate 30 minute hike to the small village of Tumianuma to catch a 20 minute bus ride into Vilcabamba.

Vilcabamba offers plenty of shops with organic and eco-friendly products such as raw milk and biodegradable soap. There are various activities such as the Organic Farmers Market, Spanish classes, live music and Children’s Eco Club. You can also explore hobby groups such as chess, archery and ceramic pottery. 

Loja is about an hour and a half drive from Finca Sagrada and has more amenities and offerings like a large supermarket, shopping mall, etc.

Teleportation is the easiest. If you haven’t mastered this yet, there are various flights you can take from North America and Europe, all landing either in Guayaquil or Quito. From there, there is another flight you can access to Catamayo or Cuenca, and driving from there. The flights to Cuenca are not always consistent however. Taxi and bus travel are relatively inexpensive from any of the cities you may fly into. You should note, however that the roads may incur damage, depending on the rainy or dry season, which may add additional time onto your travels.
