Our Living Farm

A Regenerative Ecosystem in Action
Finca Sagrada thrives as a diverse 20-acre sanctuary of irrigated pastures, food forests, and gardens nestled within 800 acres of protected mountain land, bounded by a pristine river and bubbling canals. Here, we practice living agriculture that honors both ancient wisdom and innovative ecological approaches.
Our Growing Practices
We integrate multiple regenerative methodologies rather than following a single approach:
- Biodynamic Farming: Working with cosmic rhythms and viewing the farm as a living organism
- Permaculture Design: Creating systems that mimic natural ecosystems
- Agroecology: Applying ecological principles to agricultural systems
- Indigenous Wisdom: Honoring traditional practices of the Andes region
While our methods exceed organic standards, we prioritize ecological relationships over certifications. Our closed-loop systems include humanure composting, vermiculture, biochar production, and natural fertilization—creating a self-sufficient, zero-waste ecology.

The Gardens of Finca Sagrada

Our gardens produce an abundance of food through the seasons:
- Native Andean Crops: Yucca, guayusa, jicama, turmeric, coffee, white carrots, sweet potatoes, secana squash, Andean raspberries
- Temperate Vegetables: Tomatoes, sweet and spicy peppers, lettuce, beets, carrots, cabbage, and a variety of greens
- Culinary & Medicinal Herbs: Basil, lavender, horsetail, cilantro, parsley, fennel, several varieties of mint, guayusa
- Food Forest Bounty: Avocados, papayas, bananas, passion fruit, tangerines, oranges, lemons, and soapberries

During your stay, you’re welcome to harvest fresh produce under guidance from community members who can show you what’s ready and how to harvest respectfully.
Animals: Our Co-Stewards

Animals play essential roles in our farm ecosystem:
- Grazing Partners: Cows, horses, and donkeys managed through rotational grazing to build soil health
- Poultry: Chickens, ducks, and turkeys that provide eggs, pest management, and manure
- Goats: Helping with brush management while providing milk for the community
Wildlife Returning to Sacred Mountain

On our reforested mountain, Condorhuana (Condor’s Nest), we’ve documented increasing biodiversity as habitat returns. Recent sightings include species threatened by habitat loss and poaching:
- Viscacha
- Andean Fox
- Red Pine Deer
- Numerous bird species returning to the area
Our ongoing reforestation efforts with Árbol Co(n)razón are gradually restoring the ecological balance of the mountain, creating corridors for wildlife movement and habitat for native species.
Participate in Farm Life
Guests are invited to experience aspects of farm life during their stay:
- Join morning harvests for community meals
- Learn about seed saving and propagation
- Participate in seasonal activities from planting to processing
- Discover traditional fermentation techniques
- Help with animal care and feeding
Through direct participation, you’ll gain hands-on understanding of regenerative agriculture principles that you can apply anywhere—whether on a farm, in a backyard garden, or even in container plants.
