For the last ten days I have been in the States visiting my children and grandchildren. My son David, who lives just outside DC has a three and one year old and Eve, who lives in Wisconsin just had her second child four weeks ago.

February is not my favorite time to visit the States but it is very special to share time with my children and grandchildren. One forgets the chaos of raising children and how much work it. Luckily we mainly remember the excitement of all the steps of growing up. The first steps taken or first words spoken.

For the next two weeks I will slow down, reading children books, rocking a baby and helping with dishes. Sometimes in the evenings I watch the news. The States sure is divided. Apart from missing my children, Ecuador still is a nice place to live. Despite all the wealth I see around me here in the States people work so hard just to keep up. Life seems exhausting. Materialism is so deeply ingrained. People need so much to be happy. In a strange way raising children does bring some sanity into all this.
